Palm Sunday Procession through Ronda in Andalusia

To the Spaniards the Holy weeks is indeed holy – and that’s the reason why they celebrate it. Especially in the south, in Andalusia it is celebrated at a large scale. During the whole Holy Week many processions throughout the cities take place. More than a hundert people are part of those processions.

The Processions

In Spain many so-called hermandades – brotherhoods – exist and in Semana Santa – Holy Week – they march through the streets. Those processions take many hours, because the thrones of Jesus and Mary weigh up to a couple of tons and are carried by men.

The Nazarenos walk on top of the procession followed by a throne with Jesus. After them a marching band, then more Nazarenos, the throne with Mary and then another marching band.

Here is a short video to show you how it feels like to be right there:

Viktoria Urbanek Travel Blog Chronic Wanderlust

Grüß dich, I'm Viki!

At Chronic Wanderlust, I write about my two great passions: travelling and diving – and have been doing so since 2013.

I usually spend a solid majority of the year travelling to experience extraordinary underwater adventures, taking road trips through countries I don’t know (yet) or exploring my home country of Austria.

As a certified divemaster, passionate underwater & travel photographer, road trip enthusiast and individual traveller, I collect unique moments all over the world.

I don’t believe that severe cases of wanderlust – aka chronic wanderlust – can be cured, only treated. On this blog, I want to show you how this can best be realised.
