Explore Vienna without damaging your pocket
People always seem to think of either kangaroos or “the Sound of Music” when they think of Austria. Having been born and raised in Austria this is more than just a little frustrating. Austria may be small but it is a very diverse country. Since I want you to become an Austria expert I have asked bloggers to share their favourite stories, places and also mishaps with you. If you’d like to share your story and be a part of this series, please feel free to contact me. Mona x
It is Marcelas turn today to share some amazing tips on how to experience Vienna for free! I have to admit that our capital is rather expensive but it is always worth a visit – I am sure Marcelas tips come in very handy! Many thanks for taking the time to write this for us!
Vienna is a very expensive city and one of the prettiest cities I’ve been. I usually describe the beauty and the cost as some proportional, you know?
We’re living in Berlin, so when we decided to go to Vienna, we saved just a tiny bit of money because we thought that it could be expensive but not that much. We were so wrong…
Because of that, we thought that it would be a great thing for everybody to have a list of free things to do and see around the city. Because Vienna is so god damn beautiful, that you will have the time of your life just by getting lost around it.
The first tip I’ll give you: Go to Karlplatz! Karlplatz is one of the nicest squares and it is perfect for a great summer afternoon.
Over there you will find stunning architecture, a nice fountain, loads of green, a bunch of cafes and restaurants and, the most “whaaaaa?” thing ever: they have a garden full of vegetables like tomatos, lettuce, several fruits and they even have corn! Can you imagine a bunch of CORN growing freely inside the hauptstadt of Austria? You can even access their facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/KarlsGarten
The next tip I will give you is to explore the Rathaus of Vienna.
If you’re a Disney fan like myself, embrace the chance of feeling like you’re a Disney princess in the middle of your castle!
The Rathaus is chin dropping, heart stopping gorgeous! From the beautiful way every single detail was made outside, like the frames of every window and the design of the doors all the way to the care and beauty of the garden inside.
And please, feel free to explore the surroundings too! Vienna is just like Paris but prettier, get lost every day and find yourself amazed on every corner.
If you don’t want to pay the some times abusive prices for museums in Vienna, enjoy the gardens in front of! Go to all the parks you can! Buy some fruits, cheese and bread in a nearby supermarket and have a picnic in one of the many royal gardens! Enjoy the summer and most important, have the time of your life in Vienna without breaking your wallet!
