How to spend a perfect day in Garrotxa, Spain

Welcome to Garrotxa!

Never heard of it before? Don’t worry! Before I discovered it I didn’t know about it either!

Located in the North-Eastern part of Catalonia, it is a region that most tourists don’t go to when visiting Barcelona or regions within Catalonia. It is so worth a visit, so much nature, so much authenticity, so much Spain! The more I travel through Spain – a country that I lived in for a year already – makes me want to see more. And more. And the more I see the better I know how little I’ve seen of this majestic and so very diverse country!

For all you outdoor-lovers, this region is for you! You’ll love it!

Sant Feliu de Pallerols

I found this little heavenly paradise by accident and I’m so glad I did! This medieval town is just the perfect place to think and recharge your batteries. Calm, peaceful, full of energy but relaxing at the same time.

Follow your instincts and stroll around the old part of Sant Feliu de Pallerols. Have a cup of coffee and some tapas at Plaza del Firal and enjoy yourself.

Gorg del Moli dels Murris

Nature at its best – Gorg del Moli dels Murris is a quiet and peaceful place. When I went there in May I was the only person visiting. Listen to the sound of the water flowing down the waterfall, take in the scenery with the natural pools and listen to the singing of the birds.

How to get there

Coming from Sant Esteve de Llémena you drive towards Les Planes d’Hostoles (towards Olot), after exiting the village you’ll find a street to your right. Continue to follow it for 1,7 kilometers until you see the small parking lot. Watch the video below for guidance on how to find the waterfalls as well as the beautiful natural pools:

Still want more?

There is so much to do in Garrotxa, here are some more suggestions for great half-day and day trips:

  • Authentic villages like Sant Esteve d’en Bas, Hostalets d’en Bas, Joanetes, Sant Privat d’en Bas, La Pinya, El Mallol, Santa Pau, Besalu, …
  • Natural Park and bird watching at Parc Natural dels Aiguamolls de Empordá (located on the coast)
  • Horseback riding – when you drive to the National Park del Aiguamolls you’ll pass by a lovely horse farm. Ask for excursions! They offer one hour tours for 20€
  • River Kayaking – all year round!
  • Look for blackberries in August and September near Sant Aniol de Finestres
  • Great hikes are found all around the area in Garrotxa

Where to stay – La Pedra Remença

Tranquility, surrounded by nature, an inspiring garden – what more can a heart ask for?

There is a hidden gem near Sant Esteve de Llémena that offers even more!

How would you like a pool, a fireplace, and an incredible view over the woods? Here you go! La Pedra Remença will offer you exactly that!

This rental house is perfect for couples, friends or families with its two bedrooms, two bathrooms – one of them is also wheelchair accessible! The open kitchen, living and dining room area invites for cooking, having fun and catching up with each other. When the weather is nice (which it is for most of the time) you can sit outside on the terrace or the garden and look up to the stars at night.

Natalia, the owner, is the heart and soul of this place. She will welcome you into her paradise and give you great tips on what to do and how to make the most of your trip there. Email her to ask for availability and tell her I said hi!
