Introducing Mona

Hi there!

My name is Mona and I will be writing for you here on CW! I am super excited to be a contributor and hope you will enjoy reading my articles and much as I enjoy writing them.

A night in the cold! Icehotel Jukkasjärvi really was cool 😉

Well I am sure you are curious how I made it here, right?

I have been reading Vikis articles ever since she participated in the Austrian Airline blogger challenge. In fact I wrote her an email and she replied!! We have been talking online ever since and she has given me a lot of very useful tips about blogging and even got me to start writing my own articles. Writing down my travel stories, tips and tricks is like writing my personal journal and I hope I can share with you some of my experiences.

Enough about how I got here. It is time to tell you a little bit more about myself.

Quick facts:

  • My friends call me MonaMona
  • I was born on Valentines Day in 1989 in Austria
  • Travel wasn’t a big thing in my youth but my first solo trip took me to Jersey, CI for almost four years
  • Low budget travel isn’t really my thing – I flashpack around the world! (watch out for great hotel reviews)
  • I am a free spirit and hate it when people tell me what to do
  • My job requires me to issue a lot of plane tickets
  • I am fluent in German and English
  • Ever since watching Baywatch I am terrfied of sharks but I really want to get a qualified diver. Any tips on how to overcome my fear, you guys?

“There are no foreign lands. It is the traveler only who is foreign.” – I love this quote and live by it. Traveling the world is important to me but even more important is to respect the people and traditions in the country I visit. Don’t ever forget you’re a visitor and are welcomed into a different world. Appreciate it!

Since the title of this page is “Introducing Mona” I want you to feel like you know me as I think having a relationship to the people you write for is very important. Maybe the single most important thing there is.

Born and raised in Austria – Servus to all my fellow Austrians! – I didn’t really get to travel a lot when I was little, because my parents were doing their best to build our house whilst keeping on top of all the bills and feeding me and my brother at the same time. This didn’t stop me from dreaming about moving to California when I was “big”. I had started to watch Baywatch and was absolutely hooked. Embarassing right? Do you know what’s even more embarassing? I have a fear of sharks because of Baywatch too! Please keep this secret to yourself!!

A few years later we started going on family trips to France, Germany and Italy. I loved being away from home getting to know new countries, cultures and and of course the people.

At the tender age of 18 I decided to leave my home country and work as an Au-Pair for a year. I finished my Vocational Training, found myself a hostfamily on an online platform, gave up my flat, packed my bag and boarded my first flight to Jersey! I was supposed to only stay for a year but 12 months turned into 48 months and I am still insanely in love with my little home away from home!

I love traveling because I think it teaches me so much about life and also about myself.

I havent been everywhere but it’s on my list! Join in on my ventures around the globe – I am sure we will have an awesome time together!

Lots of love and happy traveling,

Viktoria Urbanek Travel Blog Chronic Wanderlust

Grüß dich, I'm Viki!

At Chronic Wanderlust, I write about my two great passions: travelling and diving – and have been doing so since 2013.

I usually spend a solid majority of the year travelling to experience extraordinary underwater adventures, taking road trips through countries I don’t know (yet) or exploring my home country of Austria.

As a certified divemaster, passionate underwater & travel photographer, road trip enthusiast and individual traveller, I collect unique moments all over the world.

I don’t believe that severe cases of wanderlust – aka chronic wanderlust – can be cured, only treated. On this blog, I want to show you how this can best be realised.

Curious to get to know me better?
