Dear Jerusalem,
You are one of the very few cities outside of Europe that I’ve been to on several occasions. You’ve sparked so much interest and curiosity that I couldn’t stay away for long.
I love your narrow cobblestone alleys and how easy it is to get lost in this maze. You are not only a maze in the traditional way but also one in regards to religions and cultures. Temple Mount, Western Wall, Via Dolorosa, Church of the Holy Sepulchre, so many holy places inside the walls of the Old City – on less than one square kilometre.
On my visit last year we decided to stay with a young Jewish student in his apartment that he rents out on Airbnb. What an experience that was! Not only did he recommend some of his favourite restaurants – that then became our favs as well, he also kindly invited us to join his Shabbat dinner with his mother and friends. Many stories were shared that night and it was one of the days I learnt the most in my life.
Dear Jerusalem,
Take care,
